The NYC Pandemic Response Institute and amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, invite you to attend the National Conference to Advance Equity in Mpox Diagnostics. The event takes place at the KFF Barbara Jordan Conference Center in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, July 18, with a special reception and dinner on the evening of Monday, July 17.
The 2022 mpox outbreak highlighted a need for better diagnostic options to prevent the proliferation of future domestic outbreaks. Diagnostic tools play a critical role in controlling the spread of infectious disease, but their policies, development, and deployment are complex. Designing and implementing an effective and equitable diagnostic strategy for mpox diagnostics requires trust in science, community participation, whole of society education, collection of data, low barrier production pathways from lab to access points, and more.
This unique conference will bring together a select group of civil society, government and diagnostic developers to discuss how to improve the development, accessibility, and data utility of disease diagnostics into order to achieve more rapid, widespread, and equitable access to testing for individuals and improve decision-making for policy makers and clinicians.
As a result of this conference, we hope to develop an equitable and unified diagnostics plan for mpox with specific actions that government, community, academic, and corporate partners can take. With ongoing engagement, this conference and this system can be a model for both routine activities and future public health emergencies.
